Job Overview:
As an Omakase Chef, you will be responsible for preparing and serving an exclusive, personalized dining experience for guests by creating a carefully curated tasting menu. You will work closely with the Executive Chef to ensure the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and customer satisfaction. Omakase-style dining emphasizes trust in the chef’s expertise, and you will play a key role in delivering a memorable, unique, and authentic culinary experience for each guest.
Key Responsibilities:
- Menu Creation and Preparation:
- Curate and prepare daily Omakase menus based on the freshest seasonal ingredients and the preferences of guests.
- Ensure high-quality and authentic preparation of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to source high-quality seafood, produce, and other ingredients.
- Guest Experience:
- Interact with guests, providing an explanation of the menu and the ingredients used in each dish.
- Create a personalized experience based on guest preferences or dietary restrictions (if necessary).
- Ensure guests are satisfied with their meals, and address any questions or concerns they may have.
- Food Presentation and Plating:
- Ensure each dish is meticulously prepared and beautifully presented, in line with the high standards of Omakase.
- Maintain a clean and aesthetically pleasing work environment.
- Kitchen Management:
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Supervise kitchen staff (if applicable) and ensure proper food preparation techniques are followed.
- Keep track of inventory and assist in ordering supplies when necessary.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other chefs and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operation and coordination in service.
- Communicate any special guest requests or dietary restrictions to the rest of the team.
- Ongoing Learning and Innovation:
- Stay updated on trends in the culinary industry, particularly in Japanese cuisine, and continuously innovate the Omakase experience.
- Participate in training to enhance skills and knowledge of culinary techniques.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a sushi chef, Omakase chef, or in a similar high-end dining role.
- Strong knowledge of traditional Japanese cuisine, sushi, and sashimi preparation.
- Familiarity with the Omakase dining experience and the ability to engage with guests.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for providing excellent customer service.
- Creativity and attention to detail in food presentation.
Scientific Qualifications:
- Culinary degree or certification from a recognized institution.
- Experience working in a Michelin-starred or similar high-end establishment.
- Proficiency in English Language.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Capable of working with sharp kitchen tools and handling hot equipment.
