We Are Seeking: Opal Hotel Amman is looking for an experienced Chef Accountant to join our team. If you have a strong background in both accounting and the culinary industry, we want you to be a part of our team! The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in managing finances within the food industry. You will play a crucial role in managing financial records, budgeting, and ensuring the profitability of our culinary operations.

Job Description: As the Chef Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of the kitchen and restaurant operations. This includes tracking expenses, managing budgets, and providing accurate financial reports to help optimize costs and increase profitability. You will work closely with the executive chef and kitchen staff to monitor food costs, inventory, and overall financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor kitchen expenses, including food, labor, and operational costs, ensuring they align with the company's financial objectives.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, to the management team.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for the kitchen and restaurant operations, ensuring cost control and adherence to financial targets.
  • Track inventory levels and calculate food cost percentages, while implementing strategies to minimize waste, optimize purchasing, and streamline inventory management.
  • Collaborate with the executive chef and purchasing team to develop cost-effective purchasing strategies and negotiate vendor contracts.
  • Process and track invoices, ensuring that all payments to vendors are accurate, timely, and in accordance with the agreed terms.
  • Oversee payroll for kitchen and restaurant staff, ensuring accurate timesheets, compliance with labor laws, and accurate tax withholding.
  • Reconcile vendor accounts and ensure that any discrepancies or disputes are resolved promptly.
  • Analyze menu pricing and food cost margins, working with the chef and management to adjust pricing or portion sizes as necessary to improve profitability.
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of financial reports related to inventory, food costs, profits, and sales performance.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities within kitchen operations and provide actionable insights to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Review and approve all kitchen-related expenses, ensuring they are in line with the budget and financial goals.
  • Ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, including maintaining accurate financial records for tax purposes.
  • Assist with internal and external financial audits, providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain financial systems to track purchasing, inventory, and food costs effectively.
  • Provide financial training and guidance to kitchen staff, helping them understand the impact of cost control on profitability.
  • Work closely with the management team to develop strategies for increasing revenue, reducing costs, and improving the overall financial health of the kitchen and restaurant operations.
  • Monitor trends in food costs, labor costs, and market conditions to help predict future financial challenges or opportunities.
  • Assist in preparing financial projections for expansion, renovations, or new menu development.
  • Prepare reports for upper management on food cost trends, profit margins, and financial performance, recommending improvements where needed.

 Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an accountant, preferably in the food or hospitality industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and budgeting.
  • Experience in inventory management, cost control, and payroll processing.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of food industry regulations and standards is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Culinary experience or familiarity with kitchen operations is highly advantageous.
